Public Invited to Comment on Draft Programmatic Agreement with the State Historic Preservation Office

The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is accepting comments on a draft Section 106 Programmatic Agreement (PA) with the South Carolina State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

The PA sets forth the process by which the FHWA, with the assistance of SCDOT, will meet its responsibilities pursuant to Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act (16 U.S.C. 470f and 470h-2). The agreement authorizes SCDOT to initiate and, in most cases, conclude consultation with the SHPO and other consulting parties for purposes of compliance with Section 106 of the NHPA.

Comments on the PA will be accepted through October 16, 2011. Comments should be addressed to Chad C. Long either via the comment form below or through the mail at 955 Park Street Columbia, SC 29202-0191. For more information, the public may contact SCDOT Archaeologist Chad C. Long at (803) 737-1396 in Columbia.
